Medical Billing: Medicare A

Medicare Part A is generally known as hospital insurance. Part A covers services associated with inpatient hospital care.

Any individual who is receiving Social Security Benefits will automatically be enrolled in Medicare at age 65 when he or she becomes eligible. If for some reason you are not receiving Social Security benefits prior to your age of 65, you will be automatically enrolled when you apply for benefits at the age of 65. If you decide to delay retirement until after the age of 65, be sure to enroll in Medicare anyway. Individuals who will be automatically enrolled will receive notification by mail from the Social Security Administration about three months before their 65th birthday. You may also be eligible for Medicare if you are at the end stage if renal (kidney) failure.

If one has coverage with a group or business health plan, they may enroll anytime while still working and if the employer has more than 20 employees.

Medicare part A Hospital Coverage:

  • Inpatient care in hospitals
  • Critical Access Hospitals
  • Home Health Care
  • Skilled Nursing Facility Care
  • Hospice Care

There is no cost, provided that the senior paid Medicare taxes while employed.
